Dental Hygienist Services
Regular visits to the hygienist are an integral part of preventive dentistry and will ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy. The hygienist will thoroughly 'scale' and 'polish' your teeth. This will involve removing plaque and scraping any build-up of hard tartar (or 'calculus') which starts off as plaque. Your teeth will then be cleaned and polished.
The hygienist will probably discuss diet with you and will also explain the importance of cleaning between your teeth. They may also recommend special brushes, products and mouthwashes which you can fit into your regular teeth cleaning routine at home, and advise you on the best way to use them.
Visiting the hygienist will help to prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar which will eventually contribute to decay and gum disease if it is not removed on a regular basis.
With the right partnership between patient, hygienist and dentist, the traditional pattern of continuing dental treatment can change to one of continuing dental health.
Visits to the hygienist are available on a private appointment only.
