Bridges

Dental bridges are custom-fit dental appliances that replace one or more missing teeth, restoring function and appearance.

One of the most common restorative treatments utilized in dentistry, dental bridges normally involve affordable and relatively straightforward procedures. Each bridge consists of a replacement tooth (or teeth) and an anchoring system to hold the bridge securely in place. The anchoring system is most often made up of two crowns for the teeth, either natural or dental implants that are framing the gap. Replacement teeth may be created of porcelain, which can be coloured to match your existing teeth, or of precious metals or alloys.

 Types of Dental Bridges

  • Traditional bridges are the most recommended procedure for missing teeth. They consist of crowns for the anchoring teeth or dental implants framing the missing tooth gap and a replacement tooth (teeth). Traditional bridges are created of porcelain fused to metal or dental grade ceramics.

  • Cantilever bridges are utilised when the missing tooth or teeth only have a tooth to anchor to on one side of the gap.

  • Maryland or resin-bonded bridges have a metal framework that is bonded to the anchor teeth framing the gap. The necessary replacement teeth are made of cosmetic-grade plastics.

Exact placement of your bridge, regardless of the type, is crucial in creating a truly natural appearance. Your Colney Hatch dentist has the critical skills to ensure that only you know about your missing tooth.
